The Course

The PADI Open Water Diver course consists of three important parts:

  • 5 theoretical chapters on knowledge development (online, self-study with book and in the classroom) to understand the basic principles of diving
  • 5 practice sessions in the pool to learn the basic diving skills
  • 4 open water dives at the Similan Islands, to a maximum depth of 18 meters, under the direct supervision of your instructor, to practice your skills and explore the underwater world

Duration depending on the type of course from 2.5 days to 4 days plus self-study from the book.

Course Type

Standard Course: This OWD course usually takes 4 days, of which the first 2 days are filled with theory and pool, and the last 2 days we go out to the Similan Islands and do our 4 open water dives. To moderate the learning stress, one to two additional days before the course would be very helpful. So you have plenty of time to devote yourself to the theory book for self-study, there are 5 chapters that want to be read. These are then discussed in the theory units together with the instructor. In the pool we ‘ll learn the important hand movements and exercises, and we’ll have plenty of time to calmly practice everything.

Elearning Course: This is a computer option that you can start right now. The PADI Open Water Diver Online Course, via desktop/laptop or as an Open Water Diver Touch on your mobile/tablet, all with built-in video clips, gives you the background information you need to safely dive and allows you to do so with an interactive, computer-aided program to learn at your own calm. If you complete the theoretical part in advance by using eLearning at home, you only have to do the pool lessons (half day) and then the 4 open water dives, which are done exclusively at the Similan Islands. The required time for this is about 2.5 – 3 days.

Diving Equipment

In the Open Water Diver course, you’ll learn how to use essential equipment while scuba diving – diving mask, snorkel, fins, regulator, buoyancy device, various instruments, scuba tank and weight system. The complete equipment will be provided by us for the duration of the course and for the 4 open water dives we’ll provide a dive computer as well.
For further dive trips after the course, the equipment will be free of charge for you.
